The nature and properties of the material that constitutes the geotextile fibers is analysed. Some basic concepts about polymers are given, namely about their nature and the way in which they are obtained. The question of the type of physical structure is also tackled. Mechanical behaviour is analysed regarding tensile and creep forces. Brief reference is made to the behaviour of this material with regard to solar radiation and soil actions.
