This paper shows the practical prove that the hyperbolic and Asaoka's methods can predict the final water content that a soil sample would reach when it is subjected to constant matric suction; only several determinations over the tests are needed. Therefore, the testing periods can be significantly reduced with hardly any loss of accuracy for such determination. Thus, 3 published references containing suction tests and a series of specific tests for the purpose of the present article have been analyzed. The article describes the 4 soils and the techniques of suction used, and includes, for each suction, the data of evolution of water content. The analysis of these data has shown that both methods, and to a larger extent the hyperbolic one, can successfully predict the final water content of a sample, as long as a number of determinations are known. In addition, the fairly good fitting using the Asaoka’s method suggests that the hydraulic diffusivity, D(θ), this being the parameter that governs the diffusive rate of the water content, exhibits hardly any change throughout the test. Therefore, this method is proposed as a mean of assessing D, as its direct determination in the laboratory is difficult. The theoretical background of both methods can be found in the preceding paper.
