To celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Illustrious House of Ramires, Beatriz Berrini organized a collection of eleven articles that confirmed, then, what we continue to witness twenty-five years later: this novel does not quiet down. This is, in fact, one of Italo Calvino’s definitions for the classics, books that have never finished saying what they have to say. That collection is, therefore, one of the many records of the abundance of voices inspired by The Illustrious House of Ramires. I have selected three texts from the collection in an attempt to reflect on these discourses. Renowned literary critics have authored the articles: Paulo Franchetti, Antonio Candido and Laura Cavalcante Padilha. The respective titles are “An Adorable Scoundrel?”, “Irony and Latency” and “The Illustrious House and the Spears Plunged into Africa”.
