Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The files for submission are in Microsoft Word, OpenOffice or RTF format (as long as they do not exceed 2MB). Images must be submitted separately, and named according to their sequence in the article (Fig. 1, Fig. 2, etc.).
  • The text is double-spaced; uses a 12 point font; uses italics instead of underlining (except for URLs); ´ tables are inserted in the text, not at the end of the document in the form of attachments.
  • In case of submission to a section with blind peer review (eg Thematic Section, Non-Thematic Section and Reviews), all identifying elements of the authors (including title-page, text, notes, and references) must be omitted. Identification should only be made through the submission metadata in the platform.
  • All URLs and DOIs for references have been carefully checked.
  • The article follows the style and bibliographic guidelines as described in the section "Author Guidelines".

Author Guidelines

STYLE GUIDE

Article Length

1. Article length (thematic section and non-thematic section) should be between 5000 and 7000 words (including notes and bibliography). Each article should include an abstract in Portuguese and English (c. 100-150 words) and a list of up to 6 keywords.

2. Book reviews should be between 1000 and 1500 words, titled and include full bibliographical details (author, title, place of publication, publisher, year of publication, number of pages, and ISBN).

3. Please submit all text files in .docx or similar formats. Do not submit PDFs.

Style

1. Style and spelling should follow the Chicago Style (with a minor adaptation: in the list of cited works dates should be placed within brackets next to the name of the author, not at the end).

2. Citations should take the form of in-text parenthetical reference (Author, Date: Page Number) according to the list of cited works.

Images

1. The use of images and other illustrative material is encouraged. Authors must ascertain that they have permission to use the images in their articles which will be published online in open access. Authorship and copyright of images must be entered in the file metadata and they should also be included within the caption.

2. Please number the Figures in sequence and mark their placement within the main document as <Insert Fig. 1>, <Insert Fig. 2>, etc. When submitting image files should be uploaded as supplementary files. If the article is accepted, high-resolution version of the images will be required (300 dpi).

Supplementary Material

The online version of the journal can accommodate all sorts of supplementary material which will be provided as links accompanying the article. Supplementary material can include bibliographies too extensive to include in the article itself, images, checklists, audio files, video, spreadsheets, etc. Rights and permissions for supplementary material must also be cleared by the author.

Author Identification

In order to facilitate the double-blind peer review process, please do not include any identification of the author in the article file. Information about the author is introduced only in the submission metadata in the OJS platform.

Quotations

1. Short quotations (3 or less typed lines) should be enclosed within double quotation marks and presented in the body of the text.

2. Long quotations (4 or more typed lines) should be separated from the body of the text. Start the quotation on a new line, with the entire quote indented 0.5 cm from the left margin. The quotation must keep the font size and line spacing and must omit quotation marks.

3. Addition of words should be indicated in square brackets. Omission of words should be indicated by three periods in square brackets.

4. For references please adopt the author/date system. If the quote is not preceded in the text by the author's name and title of the work, the parenthetical reference should be as follows: (Author, date: page number); If the author's name and the title of the work are included in the text immediately before the quote, the parenthetical reference should include only the page number: (page number).

Notes

1. Notes are formatted as footnotes. When the note refers to additional references start with "See" followed by the reference. When referring to a comparison suggestion, start with "Cf." followed by the reference.

2. References within the notes should follow the model "author, date: page number", reserving the full reference to the final list of works cited.

3. The insertion of the note number must occur after the punctuation mark, without space. In the case of notes inserted in the parenthesis, the number must be inserted before the closing parenthesis.
