Abstract

This article addresses some of the main circumstances which in the past years have led to a proliferation of the spoken word scene in Mexico, and particularly in a megalopolis such as Mexico City. By gathering and observing some of the traces that this discourse is leaving behind in diverse media, we may understand part of the richness and complexity of the world it involves. The argument may clarify how this scene signifies even beyond the performative and embodied practice that takes place in the oral battlefield. Due to the ways in which it has been spreading through different kinds of formats, documents and actions, it not only reveals us how it has become a counterpoint to the conventional concept of literary practices, but also how it constitutes an attractive and vibrant niche that demands our attention.
