The establishment of the press in Maranhão (1821) inaugurated in the province’s political process a new reality marked by the growing participation of public opinion in the game of power. Thus, from November 1821 to 1826, typography came under the control of the government, which used it to disseminate and defend the constitutional principles / vintistas and the acts of the provincial administration. The political lexicon widens and becomes more complex. However, it is revealing the civic and pedagogical task initiated by the newspaper the Conciliador do Maranhão in favor of the need to instill better certain political concepts considered fundamental for Maranhão society. Thus in the press felt the echoes of political change and these seemed to assume a pedagogical role of educating society for the exercise of the political game of the state and the modern nation.
