For decades the Centro Promotor has functioned as the main pillar of the Portuguese labour movement, being fully integrated into the liberal society. In this article we intend to analyze the integration and the rupture of the labour movement in the liberal society through the Centro Promotor, between 1850 and 1873. A chronological mark characterized by a dawning of an orderly and conciliatory workers' movement with the liberal regime, which will later be replaced by a more radical generation of socialists that influences the disintegration of the labour movement in the liberal regime.
