Abstract

We begin the introductory text of the 52nd volume of the Revista Portuguesa da História, which presents a thematic dossier under the theme Epidemics: a historical approach, with a text written by António de Oliveira about an epidemic that visited Coimbra in 1557 and that swept through Europe in that distant year and the following one.
