The credit of 20 thousand gold florins from King D. João I and Infante D. Pedro in the “Monte do Comum” of Florence

This article contextualizes and documents, publishing the sources, which are among the documentary collections of the estate of the House of Clèves held by the State Archives of the Department of Rhineland, North-Westphalia, the credit contract, for 20 thousand gold guilders, signed by king João I of Portugal, in 1409-10, with “Monte Commune” in the city of Florence. Donated in 1414 to Infante Pedro, duke of Coimbra, the administration of this credit by this Infante and his children and heirs throughout the 15th century is also elucidated.
