At the Torre do Tombo National Archive in Lisbon, five privilegios rodados are currently preserved, four of them original ones, surviving examples in Portuguese territory of a typical documentary praxis from the Castilian crown during the Middle Ages, whose value has not yet been exposed. Although its historical information is widely known, the outstanding diplomatic interest that these documents present today has gone unnoticed by most researchers. This interest comes not only because of the documentary typology they represent, but because they are the only ones currently located in the country. The analysis of these five documents is the central axis of this work, while it will serve us to reflect, even briefly, on the documentary typology that they exemplify.
