This work aims to present the issue of compulsory displacement as being effects of large enterprises. The focus was the city of Nova Ponte, Minas Gerais, Brazil, where the construction of a hydroelectric plant promoted submersion of the entire city’s urban area and hence the construction of a new city which is also called Nova Ponte. The aim is to show that rebuilding a city should not be understood only from the point of view of reconstruction of buildings and streets but, above all, the reconstruction of everyday life.
