Abstract

A temporal space relationship between different land uses was studied in urban interface areas, in coastal hills, both at Gran Valparaiso, and the occurrence of wildfires in the last 23 years in these areas. Based on the study of vegetation fuel, the damage of vegetation affected by recurrent fires, and the historical background about the cause of fires, area and location of them, it was possible to determine areas susceptible to risks, together with the characterization of magnitude of them, especially in urban areas affected by the uncontrolled spread of fire.

These results are expected to support existing programs and management plans of the municipal territory, which should include among their activities, the mechanisms by which they must plan and coordinate the expansion of land for housing, taking care of the control of risk factors that represents
