Abstract

The different design and materials used in old buildings aggravated their fi re risk. This situation introduces problems of difficult solution to the old urban centers. With the aim of assessing the fi re risk of the historic center of Funchal the methods of Gretener and ARICA were applied to some characteristic buildings. The application of the methods allowed not only to check the fi re risk but also to detect the differences between the methods.
