Abstract

We studied the population located in areas of high risk of forest fires on the coastal landscape in the province of Valparaiso, Chile Central. This study considered the surrounding towns to areas of high occurrence of forest fires, which on its perimeter, covering an approximate area of 14 000 hectares, surrounding the inner cities of Valparaiso and Vina del Mar. The study identifies four areas of interface, whose socioeconomic and behavioral attributes undoubtedly be of enormous help to support a plan of forest fire protection openly consider the participation of the population at risk in these areas.
