Risks resulting from anthropogenic action in landfills constitution. The major landfills in municipality of Funchal

Abstract

There are several landfills in Madeira Island formed by excavation and construction materials. The investigations carried out allowed to define levels of vulnerability, hazardousness and risk for the twenty-two major and medium landfills in the municipality of Funchal. It is intended that the obtained results and the presented supporting elements provide a support for decision making, urging the realization of measures on the location, monitoring and maintenance of current and former landfills, reducing the degree of risk to the population and the environment.
