Chile has seen a considerable increase in the fire risk in the forest-urban interface. Furthermore, there has been a high level of damage resulting from fire propagation in these areas. This is due, among other factors, to prolonged droughts
associated with very unfavorable weather conditions, an increase in arson, shortcomings in prevention campaigns and in fire propellant vegetation handling and also due to deficiencies in land management policies. This article describes
the main institutions responsible for protecting the country against this problem.
