In a situation of full manifestation of risk, that is, in a disaster situation, all the civil protection agents may be involved, in accordance with the actual circumstances. As the Military Armed Forces are one of the civil protection agents, according to the Portuguese legal framework, they also have the means and units that can provide support to the competent
authorities. In these circumstances, the means to commit are designed and organized according to the primary missions of the Military Armed Forces and will be used in accordance with the principle of dual use.
In the particular case of the Army, the preferably operational means used will be essentially Support Services and Military Engineering, but it can also be used means and units of any type of operating component and, also can be provided infrastructures of its fixed component, as the cantonment Regiments located in the country.
