The PERSISTAH project was groundbreaking in Portugal in using the seismic assessment methodologies that are established in the EC8, and applying them to a large set of primary schools in the Algarve region. To achieve such an ambitious goal, software was developed to assess the seismic safety of the schools. However, it is also important to ensure that populations understand that even if a building complies with all the seismic safety requirements that are established in a code, and that structures are not designed to survive intense earthquakes without suffering any damage. So, risk communication is very important to increase the seismic resilience of communities. Supporting texts were created for the student community to facilitate the assimilation of concepts, and prevention and mitigation measures, especially those related to non-structural elements; these might be severely damaged even in properly designed buildings, which could cause injuries or even the loss of life and of the functions the building. In this work, the EB2 School of Sagres was used as a reference point of the presented results.
