Within the scope of the official commemorative cycles dedicated to Luis Vaz de Camões, the most illustrious of Portuguese poets, the IV Centenary of Luís de Camões stay on the Island of Mozambique (1569-1969) was organized in 1969.
The long stay of Camões on the Island of Mozambique, between the years of 1567 and 1569, some years after his first passage, would leave indelible marks at the historical heritage of Portuguese origin and at the collective imagination of the Mozambican population.
The aim of this article is to analyse the official program promoted by the commissions responsible for organizing and conducting the activities and festivities, through the multiple organisms attached to the central and overseas administration of the New State in the last years of the authoritarian regime. Then, the chronological identification and critical appreciation of cultural activities, scientific actions and artistic compositions carried out during the camonian commemorations in 1969 will be proceeding.
