Abstract

We read, interpreted and tried to demonstrate the historic importance of an inscription engraved in a door’s lintel of a house situated in a region who lived, in the XVI century and also after, a community of cristãos-novos (the Jews become Christian by the Portuguese law). It’s a little text of the prophet Habacuc’s book, very significant as apotropaic against the «enemies». The question of the fidelity in the translations is also discussed.
