The auxiliary forces of the imperial Roman army have raised considerable interest and numerous studies exist on this topic. In this paper we aim at illustrating the presence of one such force, the Cohors I Augusta Praetoria Lusitanorum Equitata, well documented in Egypt. We also address the Roman military in the region, functions of these units, as illustrated by recent archaeological studies, and the use of dromedaries by some of them.
