Based on excerpts from the discourses of some speakers, comments are made in this article on the crime of adultery in classical Athens and its implications in the family and in the constitution of the civic body of the Athenian polis and then a comparison is made by dissimilarity with the crime of adultery in Brazilian contemporaneity, with the aim of highlighting the cultural and social implications of this crime in the family and in the role of women in society.
