Given the scarcity and the unreliable character of the information that has come down to us about the historical Menipus, of particular interest is the image that Lucian gives us of him. Lucian would certainly admire him a lot and reveals to us a character who does not limit himself to criticising others, but, despite the contradictions in which he gets entangled, indicates the most appropriate way of living and a meaning to life.
