Abstract

This interdisciplinary research aims to introduce public diplomacy as an instrument to support relevant method in the implementation of the trade agreement between the European Union and Mercosur. Among many benefits arising from public diplomacy, it stands out the involvement of non-state actors in the decision-making of foreign policy. Thus, grounded on case study of the debates over SPS negotiations, this article merges law studies and international relations perspectives to demonstrate public diplomacy as a potential method of supporting the protection of human and environmental rights in the context of the UE-Mercosur trade agreement.
