The Outermost Regions of the European Union have a geostrategic importance that often goes unnoticed. That importance can be significantly increased if the EU, its institutions and its Member‑ states choose to strengthen the EU’s Defense policies and its presence in the world. In this article, we aimed at to demonstrate that traditional security threats is only one of the aspects in which the Outermost Regions can be of great significance to the EU and NATO. The rise of other types of menaces to global security bring with them the necessity of great powers to adapt. By assuming the responsibility of contributing to or conducting its own peacekeeping operations, the EU has the need to control strategic points over the globe from which it can launch, monitor and support those missions.
