Geology, Applied Geology, Engineering Geology, GeotechnicsAbstract
This work reports the first scientific, professional and teaching activities in countries where the application of Geology to the design and construction of engineering works has been more representative. It describes the evolution of that concept until the establishment of Engineering Geology as one of the independent disciplines of Geotechnics, as well as the creation of the International Association of Engineering Geology. Finally it describes both the evolution of these subjects in Portugal and the current situation in the country.
