The use of diamond wires in ornamental granite mining is a relatively new technique in Bra - zi lian quarries. For this reason, some problems are caused mainly by misuse of equipments and operators’ inexperience. The cases presented in this paper refer to observations done in quarries located in the State of Espirito Santo. In these quarries, the cut imperfections are related to cutting speed, cable twist, wire cooling, premature auxiliary pulley removal and improper cable joints. Although there are additional geological factors that affect the cutting operations, they have not been considered in this research. The main objective of this work was to record only the aspects related to the misuse of diamond wire in the Brazilian region where major granite exploration activities are accomplished.
