Abstract

A drainage system is known to be an important indicator of the alterations that have taken place in the landscape composition of hydrographic basins, or because of changes in structuring and form, or gain or loss of canals. The objective of the present work is to evaluate the alterations that take place in the drainage system of a hydrographic microbasins base on morphometric time analysis corresponding to a time period of 23 years. The approach employed involves the geoprocessing technique, aimed at obtaining morphometric variables, and multivariate statistical analysis. The proposed methodology was then applied to the Rio Capivari hydrographic basin. The results obtained were shown to prove that for hydrographic basin, a signi fi - cant alteration in drainage system composition had taken place during the 23-year time period under study. The morphometric variable considered to be more appropriate for estimating the alterations were the Drainage Density and the Hydrographic Density.
