This work describes an abrasion apparatus to perform laboratorial tests with geosynthetics deve loped in accordance to EN ISO 13427 (1998):"Geotextiles and geotextile-related products – Abrasion damage simulation", standard that must be followed in all CEN countries (as Portugal) to study geosynthetics abrasion. The geosynthetic used and tensile test and abrasion test procedures are referred. The test results are presented and analysed. Finally, some conclusions related with the test liability to model geosynthetics abrasion in railways are put forward.
