Analysis of the behaviour of a tunnel of the Lisbon metro opened in a miocéne clay

ln this work, a numerical simulation of the behaviour of a tunnel belonging to one of the lines of the Lisbon Metro is presented. The large number of mechanical soil parameters obtained by in situ and laboratory tests, made possible the use of finite elements models. These models were used to study the stresses and strains originated by the excavation. Tridimensional and bidimensional (plane strain conditions) analyses were performed. The results obtained were compared with those observcd in the field.
