Accelerated erosion predisposition chart - Piracicaba region, São Paulo state, Brazil: Methodology and results assessment

Abstract

This work presents the accelerated erosion predisposition chart elaborated for Piracicaba region, at the 1:100,000 scale, in São Paulo state, Brazil. The region was divided into 1O classes based on a group of attributes that were treated according to theirs importances for the erosive processes (rills and gullies). The attributes were analyzed by ranking of the levels of values or types found in the region. The vegetation and antropogenic activities were not considered in this analysis. The northwest part of the Piracicaba region (São Pedro Sheet) was selected to developed a detailed study, at a scale 1:50,000, for assessment of the accelerated erosion predisposition chart. Toe assessment was based on information collectcd by photointerpretation and field works. Toe results permitted to conclude that accelerated erosion predisposition chart had good agreement with the data collected for the São Pedro area. Toe methodology used to elaborate the chart are being applied in others regions of Brazil.
