This paper summarizes laboratory-testing data on the mechanical response of two soil-lime mixtures, from a road engineering perspective. A red-Yellow Latossol and a Gneiss saprolitic soil, two hydrated limes from now on named limes A and B, lime contents of 2, 6 and 10% and curing times of 28,
90 and 180 days were used throughout the study. The laboratory-testing program encompassed soil characterization, unconfined compression and indirect tensile strength determinations performed in dry and 4 hours submerged in water soil-lime specimens. Data support a far superior engineering performance of lime B when compared to lime A, as well as drops ranging from 20% to 30% in the mechanical response ofthe submerged soil-lime specimens in comparison with the dry ones.
