This paper presents a probabilistic model based on results from normal compliance tests on a set of 11 discontinuities. It follows the conclusions of previous research on other joint sets (comprising 17 and 21 discontinuity tests), which tried to model the experimental behaviour of those rock joints under a normal stress using different numerical models (including Goodman's and Bandis' models). The probabilistic model presented considers that for the mean normal stress - normal displacement relation the
Bandi·s model fits adequality the experimental data for the 1st loading and also for the unloadings or subsequent loadings.
