The zoning of the liquefaction potential is applied in this work to the Portuguese territory. Thus, an attempt was made to identify and define the areas having the necessary geologic conditions to develop the liquefaction phenomenon, and at the same time presenting the possibility to be exposed to seismic levels that induce it. The need for different scales of study, depending on the detail required, led the approach to be carried out at three levels: the territorial zoning level (level 1) the regional zoning level (level 2) and the local zoning level (level 3). ln levels I and 2, the final map was obtained by the superposition of two basic maps: the liquefaction susceptibility map and the liquefaction opportunity map.
