This paper presents the Macau International Airport as well as the geologic conditions of the runway and taxiways site. It reports the estimated settlements without and with treatments and why and how they were calculated. It is also presented how the forecasted information about sand fill and settlements influenced the design of the runway and taxiway foundations in order to meet airfield specifications. This information has been important for the banks to decide to support the whole project.
The land fill was subject to an extensive monitoring plan that was designed and is being executed in order to measure the field settlements. This paper also present the results obtained to date and compares them with the forecasted settlements. Furthermore this paper shows that the measured settlements follows the forecasted trend. Based on that it concludes that repavement may not be necessary before the year 2015.
