Abstract

Reference is made to how only in particular cases structural safety in underground mining exploitation can build on safety factors based on maximum efforts on the rock mass before rupture. And it is emphasised that, in general mining situations, structural safety has to be considered taking into account the dynamics of rock mass rupture and the post-rupture resistance the mass can exhibit.
