Determination of the swelling pressures in argillaceous rocks

Abstract

Methods for sampling and preparing specimens of argillaceous swelling rocks and laboratory techniques used in LNEC for measuring swelling pressure with and without confinement are described. Some results corresponding to argillaceous and marly-argillaceous rocks are presented and some physical and structural parameters which have major influence on determining the swelling pressures are commented.
