Raft foundations reinforced with piles

Abstract

ln soft soils, ocurring in thick layers, raft foundations are very often adopted. ln order to decrease the settlements, sometimes excessive, piles with spacing comparatively large can be located under the raft. The piles will take part of the total load, decreasing in this way the induced stresses in the upper zone of the foundation soil.
