Abstract

The Jack of information about the position of the sea water/fresh water interface rises problems when exploiting fresh water in coastal regions. ln the Torreira península (north of Aveiro) this problem is more difficult because of the existence of two sea water margins: the Atlantic one to the west and the "Ria de Aveiro" one to east.

ln order to study the position of the sea water/fresh water interface and to propose the location for some drill boles to exploit fresh water, several electrical soundings were carried out.

The geophysical model obtained from a proposed interpretation methodology is compared with the physical model obtained from drill-holes and, as it is shown, there is a close agreement between the proposed geophysical model and the obtained physical model.

At the present, and as a final result of the work discussed herein, fresh water is being successfully exploited in the area of the studies.
