Uplift, seepage control and observed behaviour of Aguieira dam foundation

Abstract

ln this paper studies concerning the Aguieira dam foundation (Portugal) are presented.

Watertightening and drainage works to be adopted were analysed on basis of a study of seepage and of state of stress in different hydraulic conditions through finite element plane models.

The watertightening and drainage works actually put into effect are briefly described with reference to the preceding studies, as well as the observation system used to control the hydromechanical behaviour of the foundation. Some relevant data of the observed behaviour of the foundation are also presented, and some results obtained with a finite element tridimensional model.
