Abstract

Shear wave velocity is an important parameter for the study of the dynamic response of geological formations. Contrary to the determination of compression wave velocity the obtaining of such a parameter requires the use of specific techniques as concerns wave source, recording equipment and field procedures.

This work describes the techniques that have successfully been used for in situ measurement of shear wave velocity.

Results obtained at some test sites are also presented and discussed.
