Slope Stability in Funil Hydroelectric Project

Abstract

To insure slope stability in the escavated construction sites for the Spillways and the Discharge Channel, at Funil Dam - a part of the electric supply network of Furnas - Centrais Elétricas S. A. (Eletrobrás) - was a priority item to maintain work continuity in these areas.

ln most cases slope stabilization was achieved through the use of thin reinforced concrete walls, deeply anchored in the subsoil by means of prestressed tie-backs.

Some of the local more outstanding projects are shown and the special design method, originally developed by our organization in 1957, is described.
