Conservation of monuments. Technical and methodological aspects and their focus on stone conservation

The conservation of the built heritage is a multidisciplinary activity that must be guided by solid theoretical principles and supported with the most updated scientific and technical knowledge. This paper reports the main topics addressed in the XV Manuel Rocha Lecture while summarising some basic theoretical concepts from this area of activity. It also contains a brief presentation of some of the more controversial or insufficiently known aspects that deserve to be the object of a more thorough scientific research and deep theoretical discussion.
