Elastoplastic behaviour of an unsaturated residual soil from sandstone

Abstract

ln this paper some results of triaxial compression tests performed with control of stress and suction are presented. Tests were accomplished using undisturbed samples of an residual sandy soil, collected on a typical soil profile from São Carlos City. It is shown that soil yield surface shape can be predicted using some of the most known constitutive models proposed to foresee unsaturated soil behaviour. A non-associated flow law is proposed to the soil. Changes either on yield surface size or on suction values did not appear to modify the nature of the soil flow law or the shape of the yield locus. Its is also shown that the enlargement of the yield surfaces with suction can be fairly predicted using data from triaxial and confined compression tests performed with suction control.
