Methods of analysis of a single pile under lateral loading

An analysis of different methods for study the behaviour of a single pile under lateral loading is presented. The available analytical solutions based on an elastic continuum theory and Winkler's discrete theory are presented for pre-design purposes. A simple method based on an elastic perfectly plastic behaviour of the soil is developed using the finite difference approach. The accuracy of this method is checked by comparing the calculation results with the experimental results of a pile tested in laboratory.
