ln lhís paper the main aspects to consíder in lhe design of walls and slopes reinforced with geosynlhetics are analysed. After an introduction to lhe different types of soil-reinforced systems wilh geosynlhetics, walls and slopes constitution and construction procedures are referred. Equilibrium limit approach design melhodology is mentioned and procedures for the evaluation of lhe constituent materiais properties are described . For geosynthetics t he r elevance o f t he constituent polymer, s tructure, e reep a nd d egradation agents on lhe materiais short and long-term mechanical behaviour is enhanced. ln what concems soil-geosynlhetic interaction the influence of geosynlhetic' structure and soil grain size is emphasized. The main conclusions referred are the need of a design deformation criteria and lhe strain compatibility between the different materiais, as well as the consideration of the influence of lhe installation and environmental conditions and creep on lhe mechanical behaviour of the geosynlhet ics .
