The vertical stability of anchored concrete soldier-pile walls is highly dependent on the complex interaction between the different parts of the structure (wall, anchors and supported mass). The understanding of some aspects of that question is obtained by re-assessing the vertical equilibrium in light of limit analysis, which makes it possible to estimate the theoretical minimum pile resistance to avoid excavation collapse. Different ways are used and closed form solutions are deduced. Results from finite element calculations are compared with the limit analysis results.
