This study presents a design methodology for the overall stability of single anchored retaining walls under seismic actions, in soil under drained conditions. The procedure used is based on the free-earthsupport method for determining the embedded depth and on Broms’ method for determining the anchor length. The seismic action is simulated through the application of equivalent static forces. A parametric analysis is carried out to evaluate the influence of the intensity of the seismic action through the seismic inertia angle, of the soil friction angle, of the anchor inclination and of the values of the uniform load acting on the backfill soil.
Based on the results obtained, a criterion is proposed for the location of the anchor bond length depending on the soil friction angle and on the seismic inertia angle.
