Stability of rock slopes on highways: analysis of mass structural compartmentation

There is a history of landslide events and erosion processes occurring in fractured gneisses located on a stretch of the Régis Bittencourt Highway in Serra do Azeite, Cajati / SP. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of rock structures on the landslide process, through the geometric study of the massif and the geostructural characterization focused on instability. The main structures governing the behavior of the massif are the N10-20E/75NW and N15-30W/70SW fracture families, which are more conducive to both planar and wedge landslides due to local geology and slope cutting. The slopes have been found to be highly susceptible to planar landslides even when not saturated by water, and low susceptibility to wedge landslides when dry, but there is a risk of wedge block movement when in the presence of water. The use of an analysis model of the structural partitioning of the massifs, applied in the outcrop of Serra do Azeite, helped to understand the structures that govern the susceptibility to slopes of the rocky slopes, being an aid tool for risk management of road slopes.
