Abstract

This paper is a brief guide for the design of geotechnical structures to fulfil the requirements for the safety, serviceability, robustness and durability of these designs, according to the future Eurocode 0 and Eurocode 7, initially scheduled for 2025.
This guide is based on flow charts for each of the five tasks which include the geotechnical structure design:
a) Reliability management, b) Ground modelling, c) Design verification, d) Design implementation during execution and e) Reporting.
These flowcharts allow to explain the procedures to: a) determine the Geotechnical Category of a geotechnical structure, b) develop the Ground Model and the Geotechnical Design Model, c) verify the ultimate and serviceability limit states, by partial factor method for each Design Case, d) carry out different plans to ensure the safety and the quality of geotechnical structures during its execution and e) prepare different reports during the design and execution of the geotechnical structure.
